In order to create spiral wound gaskets (SPW Gaskets), we at Goodrich Gasket wind a preformed metal strip and filler in a spiral pattern around the outside of metal winding mandrels. The gasket's inner diameter is determined by the outside diameter of the mandrels, and superposed metal and non-metallic windings are continuously wound until the desired outer diameter is reached. Spiral wound gaskets (SPW Gaskets) are high pressure and high temperature gaskets that are compatible with the flange closure in which they are to be used. They can be used in all pressures from vacuum to the standard 2500 psi flange ratings and in the full temperature range from cryogenic to about 2000°F. They have more flexibility and recovery qualities to keep a seal under a variety of working situations, making them more resilient than any other kind of metallic gasket.
